Description
The poster depicts a soldier holding his rifle to his chest as he looks toward the distance at a farmer using bullocks to plough a field. There is a figure standing by the oxen waving an olive branch and this is the Marianne figure who is dressed in drapery and helmet of antiquity and holds a spear in her right arm while waving an olive branch, she represents peace in France. The poster is using an ideallic rural past to motivate soliders at the front to fight for traditional values.
