Description

Turkish Cavalry Trooper's Sword. The hilt features a sheet steel guard with turned edges and has the crescent moon and star pierced into the front face. The grips are dark brown checkered wood attached to the tang by two metal rivets and there is a thumb groove on the back strap. The curved blade is single edged with a pipe back and a double edge spear point along a quarter of its length which blends into the back of the blade. The ricasso is stamped with a Turkish sultans toughera mark, a serial number 5711 (Arabic numerals) and an Arabic cypher over the date 1325 (1907).

History / Summary

This sword was given to Trooper Charles Vernon Fergusson, 1st Light Horse Regiment, when he offered aid to a wounded Turkish soldier while serving in the Middle East Campaign in 1915.
