Description
Studio portrait of 7237 Private (Pte) Thomas Evan Field, 33rd Battalion, of Kootingal, NSW. Pte Field enlisted on 24 January 1917 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Osterley on 10 February 1917. He was killed in action on 26 July 1918 at the Somme, aged 34 years. Pte Field is buried at France 1170 Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Fouilloiy. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured.
