Description
Studio portrait of 2823 Private (Pte) Louis Clerville White, 6th Reinforcements, 24th Battalion, of Noble Park, Vic. Pte White enlisted on 21 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses on 27 October 1915. He was later transferred to the 8th Battalion and promoted to sergeant and then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt). He was killed in action on 23 August 1918 at Villers-Bretonneux, France. 2nd Lt White was posthumously awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 14 May 1919.
