Belgian Vest Pocket Pistol
Description
Single shot, vest pocket pistol. The pistol features a hinged cover plate accross the breach that opens to the left side to load or extract a .22 calibre rimfire cartridge. There is an external hammer which is cocked using the thumb. The birds head pistol grip has wooden grips screwed to the frame. The nickel plating shows extensive wear and there is light spot rusting on the action and the barrel. Belgian proof mark of a crown over U on the extractor plate.
History / Summary
This vest pocket pistol was apparently used during the South Africa campaign 1899 - 1902 by an unnamed soldier. The pistol was a private purchase personel defence weapon.
