Butler, Michael Seymour (Flying Officer, b.1918 - d.2003)
Description
Logbook of 407220 Flying Officer Michael S Butler, who trained and served with 12, 23 and 75 Squadrons RAAF, during the Second World War. After completing his training with No 1 Flying Training School, Butler was posted with 12 Squadron in Darwin, to complete a Wirraway conversion course. In March 1942, he was transferred to 75 Squadron and went to New Guinea where he ws involved in the aerial defence of Port Moresby, including the battle of Milne Bay, 26 August-5 September 1942. Butler notes several entries during this period where he engaged with Japanese zeroes, including a hit on 21 April 1942. Other entries record post-war flying from 1952-1955 around Denilliquin, Mildura and Broken Hill.
