Description

Black leather general purpose (GP) boot with cotton laces and twelve pairs of riveted eyelets. The boots are reinforced down the back of the leg and ankle and have rubber soles. The soles are marked 'DUNLOP MADE IN AUSTRALIA 8/5 '. Inside the left boot is the marking '8/5, 81 1 87 R.B. T.'. The right boot is missing its lace and has the markings on the inside of 'M1 27 R.B.T 8/5'.

History / Summary

This pair of Australian Army issue GP boots was worn by Major Adamson during his service in Vietnam. Colin James Adamson joined the Australian Army in 1953. He spent seven years in New Guinea with the Pacific Island Regiment. He later served in Vietnam from 27 March 1968 to 22 October 1968 with 1 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR). He was the Commanding Officer of A Company 1 RAR during the Viet Cong attacks on Fire Support Base Coral in May 1968.
