Description

Studio portrait of 1736 Private (Pte) Charles Robert Giddings, 18 years of age (left), and his brother 1333 Pte Oliver Thomas Giddings, 21 years of age (right), both of Wellington, NSW. Charles enlisted on 2 August 1915 and served with the 2nd Reinforcements, 30th Battalion. He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana on 17 December 1915. He later transferred to the 1st Machine Gun Company and died of wounds on 21 November 1916 in France. Oliver enlisted on 29 August 1914 and served with G Company, 3rd Battalion. He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides on 20 October 1914. On 7 May 1915, whilst serving on the Gallipoli Peninsula he received a gun shot wound to the left elbow. He was killed in action on 18 August 1916 at Mouquet Farm.
