Browning, John Fordham (Jack) (Lieutenant, b.1909 - d.?)
Collection of NX5897 John F (Jack) Browning relating to his service with 2/4 Battalion during the Second World War. It includes a letter, 17 June 1941 and a photograph of Browning with three other soldiers in Palestine, June 1940. The letter is written from Palestine and addressed to his friend Marie. It is a detailed account of Browning's involvement in the evacuation of Crete. He writes of the boat trip from Alexandria to Crete, including being attacked by German planes and a counter attack by allied Blenheims. He detailed his experiences while on Crete: taking leave in local villages, air raids and standing too waiting for the arrival of the German paratroopers. He goes on to describe their evacuation from Crete and their move from Alexandria to Palestine.
