History / Summary
Awarded to 6718 Private William Henry Bain of 3 Battalion, AIF. Bain, from Sydney, NSW, was working as a labourer at the time of his enlistment on 1 August 1916. He sailed for the Western Front on the troopship S.S. 'Port Nicholson' on 8 November, 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Mont de Merris near Strazeele, France on 14 April, 1918. Bain returned to Australia on 31 March 1919.
