Description

Black leather boots with toecaps, front lacing and side zip fastenings. The boots extend beyond the ankle and are reinforced with an extra strip of leather down the back of the leg and around the heel. The sole is made of three layers of leather with a 2.5 centimetre heel. In addition to glue, the sole is nailed to the boot at the toes and under the arch. The laces are made of black cotton. The manufacturer's emblem of a grand mansion is stamped under the arch.

History / Summary

This pair of RAAF Aero Medical Evacuation (AME) flying boots were made in Butterworth, Malaysia for N223902 RAAFNS Nurse Patricia Elizabeth Dudley. Dudley was posted to 4 RAAF Hospital, Butterworth from 20 May 1968 until 18 March 1969. She was one of 106 nurses from the RAAFNS who served in Vietnam flying on Aero Medical Evacuation operations. Later in 1969, with the US rank of Flight Officer, she also served on detachment with the United States Air Force as part of the 902nd and 903rd Aero Medical Evacuation Squadrons (AMES). Part of the 315th Air Division, the 902nd AMES was based at Clark Air Base, Philippines and the 903rd at Tan Son Nhut in Saigon, South Vietnam. During the period 1966-1971 30 nurses from RAAFNS flew operations with the USAF AMES on single attachments which usually lasted 8 weeks. These evacuations flew into Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Formosa and the Ryuka Islands.
