Blain, Reginald Norman (Lieutenant, b.1917)
Papers of NX1951 Lieutenant (Lt) Reginald Blain, 2/2 Battalion, relating to his service in the Middle East and Papua New Guinea. The collection includes letters written by Blain to a work colleague from Glen Innes, between 1940 and 1942 while training in Australia and later from Palestine, Bardia, Greece and New Guinea. Blain writes of places he's visited, actions he's been involved in, including the Battle for Bardia, and comments on news from Australia. A typescript of a letter written by Blain on 13 May 1941 to his mother relates his escape from Greece following internment in Turkey. There is a telegram notifying of Blain's death on 20 October 1942, several letters of condolence to his mother, including one from General Blamey and photographs of Blain and other soldiers during training, after his escape from Greece and several formal photos of Blain in uniform.
