Description
Fortification Point, New Guinea. 1944-04-08. An interior view inside a disabled Australian Matilda tank showing the effect of a trial round fired from a Japanese 75mm field gun, pack type, Meiji 41. The round had been fired from a range of 150 yards during tests by the 2/14th Field Regiment arranged by the Operational Research Section, Australian Army Ordnance Corps at Headquarters 5th Division. The weapon had been serviced by the 2/83rd Australian Light Aid Detachment and fired armour piercing, high explosive and hollow charge rounds during the tests.
